Carl R. Barry
Carl R. Barry is Austin’s personal injury attorney with the experience to win you the compensation you deserve.
Carl’s courtroom skills are just one reason he became a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum in 2008. Only one percent of attorneys in the United States belong to this prestigious organization and admission is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar lawsuits and settlements.
Carl is in the two percent of Texas personal injury lawyers recognized as a 2010, 2011 and 2012 Texas Super Lawyer Rising Star. In 2012 and 2013, the National Trial Lawyers Association honored Carl as a Top 40 Under 40 trial lawyer.
Before forming the Barry Law Group, Carl practiced at Susman Godfrey LLP where he worked on complex personal injury cases and business disputes in which millions to hundreds of millions of dollars were at stake.
Carl’s commitment to personal injury litigation and wrongful death cases has proven successful on numerous occasions. As lead counsel for the family of an Austin man killed by an 18-wheeler at an intersection, Carl won a settlement in one of the largest contributory negligence truck-pedestrian wrongful death cases in the past 10 years in Austin.
Carl earned his JD from the University of Texas School of Law. He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Florida. His compassion as a lawyer is present in his personal life as well. Carl cares deeply about Austin’s citizens and contributes both time and money to its charitable organizations.
Brett A. Burlison
Prior to joining the Barry Law Group as partner, Brett was a lead litigator at a large Northern California insurance defense firm.
As part of the firm’s on-call trial team, Brett represented excess insurance carriers and Fortune 500 companies in traumatic brain injury and trucking accident cases. His extensive experience gained from defending these companies has given Brett unique insight into defense counsel strategies — as well as an edge in the courtroom.
Years ago I represented a young woman whose right foot was crushed and severely lacerated in a catastrophic car accident. Doctors were not sure she would walk normally again, but knew she would never dance again and dancing was very important to her.
One day I went to her house to take photographs for mediation. The first thing I saw when I walked into her bedroom was a wall of trophies, photographs and newspaper clippings. It was a floor to ceiling shrine to this young woman’s dancing career. Immediately that image conveyed to me what this accident had taken from her. You can’t describe that — you have to see it in order to truly understand what dancing meant to her.
During mediation photos were utilized of her achievements in dancing and the wall of trophies and awards spoke for her in a way that nothing else could. We settled the case favorably. Since that experience I have never prepared a case for trial without going to the client’s house and seeing where they live — to learn what is important to them.
Brett is licensed in all state and federal courts in Texas and California. He is vice president of the Palo Alto Area Bar Association and chairperson of its Trial Practice Forum. He is a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice, the Consumer Attorneys of California and the Austin Bar Association. Selected by his peers, Brett has been recognized in California as a distinguished Super Lawyer and Rising Star since 2010.
Brett earned his JD from the University of Houston Law Center. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
